In addition to being a recognized provider of prototyping and product development services, Peridot also serves customers as a production source, offering medium volume production services. In the project outlined here, they were contracted by a customer in the automotive and off-highway industry to fabricate a custom 4-pc cab hinge, used in an ATV windshield assembly. Peridot developed the engineering process for the provided design, as well as the custom tooling and fixturing necessary to produce the part. The unit’s 1045 steel castings were produced via a precision investment casting process at Peridot’s offshore foundry partner and shipped to the US facility where full testing for quality and integrity were carried out. The part ...
A customer in the automotive industry contracted Peridot to create a fully functional prototype of the custom Housing highlighted here. Utilizing simulated polycarbonate material and a state of the art SLA rapid prototyping machine, the advanced stereolithography (SLA) process was carried out to produce this prototype, holding a tolerance of ± 0.25 mm. In order to properly perform a liquid flow analysis, optical clarity was necessary. This part is originally manufactured in metal, and fabrication out of transparent plastic was a manufacturing challenge Peridot overcame with proprietary innovations for the customer. Other unique specifications including the unit’s large size and complete moisture resistance also required ingenuity to ...
Peridot was commissioned by a customer in the HVAC industry to fabricate a custom sensor Housing, used in electrical components. This multi step process began with verifying the sensor design, carried out using Peridot’s advanced SLA rapid prototyping process. Rubber molded soft tooling was then created to facilitate a pilot run for functional verification. A sample batch of sensors were constructed with the rubber molding process, using PX-100 polyurethane and holding a tight tolerance of ± 0.005”. Two different sensor housings were produced, with sensor #1 measuring 3.000” in diameter, and 0.874” in height, and sensor #2 dimensions being a 3.456” diameter, and a height of 0.330”. The sensors were blast finished to produce a grade ...
A customer in the mining industry needed a company with the experience and advanced molding expertise necessary to produce a composite blade system that would be used on a flotation device. Peridot was contracted to perform all of the required work for this high wear application, including part design, engineering, and fabrication of the custom blade system. After finalizing the design, Peridot constructed custom tooling for the part using cutting edge CNC and 3D printing equipment. The blade system was created utilizing an advanced molding process, over molding a thermally cured performance polyurethane material onto steel. A tight tolerance of ±0.015” was maintained throughout. The blade assembly was thermally post-cure to obtain the ...
Peridot was contracted by a customer in the medical industry to develop and prototype the chair support unit highlighted here, to function as a structural component in a medical device for functional, durability, and UL testing. The foundry tooling was designed and finalized, and state of the art sand printing machinery was employed for a developed printed sand molding process. Ductile iron was carefully poured into the created mold to manufacture the unit. CNC machining processes were performed on the net shaped component for precision detailing and high level finishing. A tight tolerance of ± 0.030” was maintained throughout. The part was fully tested for accuracy and integrity with visual, dimensional, and metallurgical ...
